Salt rooms and salt caves
Viva Salt team was the first in the world to develop a certified salt binder — the foundation of every lasting salt room.
Room or cave?
The difference is in the experience, not the function
Functionally, there is no difference between salt rooms and salt caves — the difference lies in the design. In salt rooms, the walls are adorned with decorations that most often mimic the sea or a natural setting, illuminated by various forms of lighting.
Salt caves feature true cave formations — stalactites and stalagmites in warmer tones, so the entire space evokes a natural cave. Sometimes we also build combined spaces that unite elements of both worlds. All surfaces are clad in salt, most often in its signature white.
How the room works
The salt on the walls is more than decoration
A salt room fulfils its true purpose only once a halogenerator is installed — a device that grinds coarse particles of the purest salt (99.8% pure NaCl, with no additives) down to just a few microns and safely disperses them into the space. The result is a dry salt aerosol, lighter than air, visible in the room as a fine salt mist.
Thanks to its hygroscopic nature, the large quantity of salt on the walls dries the air and lets the aerosol move freely. In a humid environment, aerosol particles would collide with water particles, lose energy and fall to the floor — undermining the very essence of the salt room.
That is why the binder is crucial: salt applied to the walls must retain its hygroscopicity, be firm yet elastic, adhere excellently and withstand frequent humidity changes over many years. Inadequate binders cause salt to fall off the walls, ruining both the look and the function of the room — and losing the trust of its users.
Himalayan salt
Walls that glow from within
Himalayan salt in its many forms is a frequent addition to salt rooms: stones, large boulders, bricks, mosaics and lamps. Pink salt from the Khewra mine in Pakistan — the world’s second-largest salt mine — has become an essential detail of salt rooms in recent years, with ever more requests for rooms built entirely from it.
Most often we build walls of Himalayan bricks: more or less translucent and backlit, they cast a wide spectrum of warm colors and create a true visual experience.
Yet Himalayan salt is a very demanding building material: in contact with air it absorbs moisture and loses mass, which — without proper binders and structural solutions — can distort the wall’s geometry, weaken the joints and compromise safety. Moisture also encourages microorganisms and mold. Viva Salt team has developed reliable solutions that give Himalayan walls a virtually unlimited lifespan — with no ongoing maintenance.
Spa & Wellness
Creative collaboration on Spa and Wellness centers
Viva Salt team has gathered a large team of specialists and, over five years of collaboration, has built 17 Spa and Wellness centers to date. Alongside salt rooms, together with carefully chosen partners we take part in building and renovating saunas of all types, steam baths, tepidariums, heated benches, pools, Kneipp paths and hydromassage tubs.

Construction cost
Every space is a story of its own
The questions we hear most often concern dimensions and construction cost. Every space has its own specifics — the condition of the walls, existing installations, ceiling height and type — so the price depends on the scope and nature of the work, the type of room or cave, the amount of decorative elements and the additional equipment.
The easiest path to a preliminary quote: send us photos of the space from several angles and a freehand floor sketch with dimensions — no technical drawing required. Add your own idea of how the room should look, or photos of our projects you like.
In terms of cost, rooms and caves up to 10 m² are the most economical. Where the space allows, we build up to 40 m².
We have carried out projects in more than 40 countries — contact us and we will point you to your nearest representative.
